Subscription in Crystallize

A subscription is a pricing model where, instead of paying once for a good or service, a customer pays on a recurring basis. This makes perfect sense for things that are continuously delivered or accessed, such as magazines, utilities, and memberships.

Subscriptions can be applied to physical as well as digital products. Lately, they’ve been driving trends like convenience commerce (where items like coffee or razor blades may be delivered as often as desired) and discovery commerce (where customers are regularly surprised with things like books or recipes with ingredients). Streaming services also use subscriptions to manage access to their content.

In general, subscription commerce is a business model where customers pay a recurring fee—monthly, annually, or based on usage—to access products or services. It creates predictable revenue streams while enhancing customer retention through convenience, personalization, and ongoing value.

More and more businesses are finding clever ways to shift their offerings to subscription-based models for the obvious revenue and customer retention benefits they provide. Visit our subscription e-commerce guide to learn how you may benefit from the subscription for your business.

In Crystallize, subscriptions can be managed with the PIM API, Subscription API, and/or the Crystallize App. Our Subscriptions Overview describes many subscription types and capabilities within Crystallize, while our Subscription Flow Tutorial walks you through the technical process.
